STOLEN CHARACTER? Cosplay Chaos at Bronx Anime & Comic Con
Let’s get one thing straight: I wasn’t even supposed to cause trouble. I showed up late. I was cute. I was chill.
But the second I hit the vendor rows at Bronx Anime & Comic Con, the drama practically threw itself at me
in thigh-high boots. on a pole
I’m not just talking about that one guy who still doesn’t understand deodorant is canonically required in Gotham. I’m talking about the indie comic scandal that just won’t die: Punchline.
Yeah. That Punchline. The character DC “introduced” in 2020, but indie creator Ray Felix was already shopping around back in 2005.
And in a twist straight out of a late-stage Harley plotline—DC actually lost the trademark case.
I’ll let you process that while I adjust my Blossom wig.
🍬 Why Was Blossom at a Comic Con in the Bronx?
Because nerds don’t stretch.
Because villains don’t slouch.

I came to flirt, people watch cosplay, collect content, and see if city life was any greener further north
While there I met cool folks and artists took promo shots in 8 bit, and scoped out every bit of real creator magic hiding between artist alley and the merch tables.
Shoutout to the Manic Panic crew—Tish and Snooky still got it.
And if you don’t know why that matters, we can’t be friends. (Just kidding. I’ll convert you.)

💥 What’s the Deal With Punchline?
It’s GIVING indie theft, corporate gaslighting, and cosplay censorship
DC rejected Ray Felix’s pitch in 2005.
Fifteen years later, they released a character with the same name, similar vibe, and dropped her into Joker’s storyline.
Ray won the trademark case. But the battle’s still going, because DC keeps releasing merch and pretending their millions can outlast a Bronx artist’s legal budget.
Support indie creators.

And don’t let anyone steal your origin story.

✊ Bonus Rant: The AI Lawsuit Hypocrisy
Disney, Netflix, and Apple are reportedly exploring AI to replace graphic teams, writers, and animators.
But here’s the kicker—they’ve already spent decades offshoring creative work to places like India and eliminating local artist jobs.
Disney started pulling animation out of Anaheim over 25 years ago.
Now they want to sue MidJourney for using their style while simultaneously refusing to credit, pay, or protect the very human creators they steal from.
Stan Lee was doing appearances and creating content up until his death—
while being legally manipulated by handlers.
Ray Felix? Still fighting just to get DC to stop using his IP.
So let’s be real: these companies are only upset about AI because they can’t fully control it yet.
I might use AI to help make graphics.
But I still buy comics and wall art from artists. If there’s an ethical way to use AI, it’s not coming from the same studios that gutted the industry.
Support humans.
Especially the ones who can’t afford to sue billion-dollar empires.
